Went for orientation camp yesterday... lots of VJ ppl. There was Chuan Hui from the senior class (kinda silly really, we kept finding each other familiar but couldn't remember where we'd seen each other) and a few grand-grand seniors (the guys, cos of army)... my former OGL Theresa... a couple of S4 ppl and Alison from S62. Plus Tiffany and Michelle from AHS. Was ok lar, and as it turned out only 80+ ppl were there even though the cohort size this year is about 185.

But one thing that's really really annoying... it's like being in Arts Fac all over again. We're the smallest fac and the fac that's different from all the rest of the facs (the rest of the facs are like Business or Engineering) which of course makes for a lot of angst, like back in Arts Fac. We have a reputation to keep up for being super-on and happening and noisy. We are testosterone-challenged, with about 4 girls to 1 guy. And, to top it all off, we have that same stupid bloody "neh-neh-neh-neh-neh" cheer. ARGH!!!

I declare that I've just landed myself in the most eccentric hall in NTU. Or at least the hall with the most eccentric founding batch. It's the only one out of the 15 halls that has rows of dorms called "Animal Farm" and "Twilight Zone", instead of just the usual numbers. Unfortunately, the most interesting names seem to belong to the guys' dorms. I pity the guys who get rooms on "Campus Rose" *smirks*

The following taken from Anya's LJ:

Your life's movie soundtrack:

Opening credits :
"Bring Me To Life" by Evanescence

Average day scene:
"Jaded" by Aerosmith or "Building the Mystery" by Sarah Mclachlan

Best friend scene:
"Someday" by SugarRay

First date scene:
"My Funny Valentine" the version sung by Matt Damon from The Talented Mr. Ripley, or "I Only Have Eyes For You" by The Flamingoes

Falling-in-love scene:
"Poison" by Alice Cooper or "Disease" by Matchbox 20... sensing a trend here? ^^

Love scene:
"I Want You" by Third Eye Blind or "Iris" by Goo Goo Dolls

Fight-with-friend scene:
"Complicated" by Avril Lavigne

Break-up scene:
"My Favourite Mistake" by Sheryl Crow

Get-back-together scene:
Any guy who comes crawling back to me will not get the time of the day, therefore, I will cheerfully sing Texas's "In Demand"

Wedding scene:
"I Shall Believe" by Sheryl Crow or "Absence of Fear" by Jewel

Long-night-alone scene:
"To The Moon And Back" by Savage Garden or Singaporean band Peculiar Remedies's "Light"

Heartbreak scene:
"Motorcycle Driveby" by Third Eye Blind

Mental-breakdown scene:
A variety of discordant sounds. or perhaps Paganini's Variations

Driving scene:
"Just A Girl" by No Doubt or "Hotel California" by The Eagles.

Deep-thought scene:
"Machi" or "Panic Disorder" both by Domoto Tsuyoshi

Regret scene:
"100m Backstroke" by Josh Rouse

Lesson-learning scene:
"Miss Misery" by Elliot Smith, for subjects I hate.

Party scene:
"Elevation" by U2

Happy dance scene:
"KinKi no Yaruki Manman Song" by Kinki Kids. Yes, I do know it's a cartoon song, and it's also silly and nonsensical.

Flashback scene:
"Cello Solo Suite No.1 Prelude" by J.S. Bach

Death scene:
"Nothing" by Peter Searcy... 'cause this is the song they played when Alex died in the Roswell episode. I even wrote a short story with the lyrics as inspiration

Closing credits:
"Sonata No. 3 2nd Movement in Adagio (BWV 1029)" by J.S. Bach

Severus Snape
You're Severus Snape! You worship the deity that is solitude and you adhere religiously to your principles, whatever those may be. You certainly have no qualms saying what's on your mind and take a special pleasure in your bouts of cruelty.

Which Slytherin are you?

Nobody will find a single mistake in your fics--not
a spelling error, not a grammar error, and
especially not a canonical mistake! You'd
probably be mortified at so much as even a
comma out of place. You work hard on your fics,
and does it ever show! Your plots are complex
and intelligent, and your characters are almost
perfect replicas of their canon counterparts.
Yours are the kind of fanfics people can get
lost in, and even forget they're not reading
the real thing! Thanks for writing such great
stuff. Just remember it's okay to losen up a
little.

What Kind of Fanfiction Writer Are You?

Pretty much yar, though not so much for grammar. I've got notes and notes full of plot lines and structures, and I take my research seriously. And don't even start on how pissed I got with all the great big gaping plot holes in a certain someone's writing. You'd think she'd spot them after three years of, in her words, "fine-tuning" her work.

I was reading Serry's LJ...for some reason I don't see any slash at all. The only remotely gutter-minded thought I had was het, and had something to do with Dumbledore and Mdm Marshbank. And then, I detected a very strong Snape/McGonagall vibe *smirks* Except that it'll never happen (Correction, it better not happen.) 'cause Snape is about half her age.

22nd June Sunday, 6pm

I went to MPH with my parents after my piano lesson... stood there for about an hour reading OotP, then my parents got so bored of waiting for me they just gave up bought me the book ^^

Shall not give spoilers... but I gotta say I'm only at Chapter 8 and if they ever make this into a movie, I am so going to watch it. The things JKR thinks of...*amused* I've already gone "Oh.My.God." twice - once in utter shock and once in utter amazement. (Man I sound like I'm advertising for the book or something....) And to my amusement, the book was so heavy it also made a sizeable hole in the plastic bag it was in. ^_^||

Anyway I have to finish the book before tomorrow, 'cause my sister is coming back from Seoul and she's going to start rushing the book with me... ok, starting right from Chapter 1 again.... no more speed reading. Will savour ever detail. *grins*

about 7 hours later...

*falls at feet of our beloved Potions Professor*

Forget Snape-fics, just give me Book 5. I hereby declare my undying love and devotion to movie Snape, fanfic Snape and, without a shadow of doubt, canon Snape.

If you ever thought I was scary and obsessed....Be afraid. Be Very afraid.

Harry Potter 5th book out today... was quite amusing to see ppl on the news all dressed up, and even worse, kissing the books. Well I'm not really getting super worked up about it but maybe that's because I haven't waited 3 years. Am trying to download it from winmix, but so far I'm only number 30 in the queue and I've got piano lesson again tmr... and for all I know that net version is one of the million fanfic versions of the Order of the Phoenix. Interestingly, when I was searching for the book, I noticed that the German, French and Japanese versions of the other books are also available for download as well as the games and posters... there's a lot of yaoi doujinshi posted too.

And before I forget.... it's Midsummer's Night. Singapore's too hot for a bonfire (and besides I don't want the neighbours mistaking it for arson) so I've got a little cyber bonfire.... ^^

Well I don't have an LJ account, but if I had an LJ, this is the nick I'd have used... quite similar to the one I use for ffnet. *is buried under stack of leaflets from NTU*

how can one school have so many different orientation camps? ^_^|| was greatly amused to discover that there's a Buddhist Society called Nirvana. And then, a Christian Society (one of many) that used The Matrix for it's pamphlet idea, though somebody should tell them that it was red and blue pills, not those bean-like things they have in the picture.

Chris...Remember the VJC three-word story I was telling you about? For some strange reason... poor Harry and a random hobbit has been roped in, together with Father Christmas and some elves. And no, I wasn't the one who started it... not in this thread, at least. ^_^||

And one really bad summary execution that tickled me, then gave me Very Bad Thoughts that I feel compelled to share: "She has a scar on her forehead shaped like a slytherin, but, it lights up when she's mean or angry." Oooh~! Which Slytherin is it shaped like, and which part of him lights up? *assumes innocent expression*
And then there was the classic summary: "Snape/Malfoy/Potter/Dumbledore"...(one fic to slash them all!) and the fic that "had stuff in it"

Went over to Chris's place for another Ratal gathering yesterday, and was finally able to stayover *grins* Thanks for having us over, Chris! Claire was finally able to make it and we finally got to meet the elusive Hyanda. Imposed Rickmania on everyone with Dogma, and finally showed Chris the snippet of Jason Issacs dropping his pants in DragonHeart. (Said movies also resulted in some Very Bad Ideas.) Also, had very strong sense of deja vu during dinner at Chris's place (yes yes, glitch in the Matrix)... I checked up my dream diary when I got home and it turns out that I had the exact dream about us all sitting down to dinner and Hyanda saying something about OC-ing some time in Sept '01. I thought it was one of my crappy dreams 'cause I didn't really know Chris very well at that time and hence it doesn't make sense that I was dreaming about going to her house, had no idea what "OC-ing" was, and I had never seen Hyanda, Elear, Dae or Serry in my life. Maybe my sister is right - we're living in some weird Groundhog Day thing where we keep reliving our lives over and over again, 'cause I think she gets that too sometimes. Or it could be that me and my sister, by some genetic screw-up, have got warped brains.

Anyway we ended up talking about blogs n LJs this morning at brunch, and I suddenly feel a need to share the reasons behind the shallowness of entries on my blog. Well the thing is... when I have a layout, it's usually a result of the state of mind I'm in at the moment, and besides the fact that I have a Private Lives and Noel Coward obsession, there're parts in Act 2 of Private Lives that struck a chord in me. People always say that Act 2 is the most boring part since Act 1 has the most quotable quotes and the most famous balcony scene after the one in R&J while Act 3 has some memorable lines like "Some women should be struck regularly, like gongs". True, the only really happening part in Act 2 is the crazy free-for-all fight, but I think the slower pace of Act 2, with its long pauses and a sort of languid feeling as the two characters lounge about in their pjs shouldn't be considered a flaw in the structure of the play. Like their relationship, the peace and calm in Act 2 makes it dull, lacking the fire in their usual disagreements and passion, yet it is also the most introspective and serious Coward ever gets. You can actually feel the tension mounting between them as they struggle to pretend that everything is going to be fine forever, that there is no storm brewing overhead the relative calm between them. The following extract is the inspiration behind this month's layout and entries:

ELYOT [seriously]: You mustn't be serious, my dear one; it's just what they want.
AMANDA: Who's they?
ELYOT: All the futile moralists who try to make life unbearable. Laugh at them. Be flippant. Laugh at everything, all their sacred shibboleths. Flippancy brings out the acid in their damned sweetness and light.
AMANDA: If I laugh at everything, I must laugh at us too.
ELYOT: Certainly you must. We're figures of fun all right.
AMANDA: How long will it last, this ludicrous, overbearing love of ours?
ELYOT: Who knows?
AMANDA: Shall we always want to bicker and fight?
ELYOT: No, that desire will fade, along with our passion.
AMANDA: Oh dear, shall we like that?
ELYOT: It all depends on how well we've played.
AMANDA: What happens if one of us dies? Does the one that's left still laugh?
ELYOT: Yes, yes, with all his might.
AMANDA
[wistfully clutching his hand]: That's serious enough, isn't it?
ELYOT: No, no, it isn't. Death's very laughable, such a cunning little mystery. All done with mirrors.
AMANDA: Darling, I believe you're talking nonsense.
ELYOT: So is everyone else in the long run. Let's be superficial and pity the poor philosophers. Let's blow trumpets and squeakers, and enjoy the party as much as we can, like very small, quite idiotic school children. Let's savour the delight of the moment. Come and kiss me darling, before your body rots, and worms pop in and out of your eye sockets.

Clearing out my A Level notes (finally!) today... have come to the conclusion that in the past two years, I must have killed quite a few trees. *^_^|| at stack of recyclable paper on table* if this is the amount I have left that still can be used... you don't want to know how much I had to throw. And if you were wondering what took me so long to sort out the material here enough to start a big bonfire instead of just dumping everything out the moment the exams were over... just try to understand that I'm vaguely optimistic about everything except my own exam results. 1. WHAT TIME DO YOU WAKE UP IN THE MORNING?
Depends on what time I sleep, or if I have lessons. On a normal day I wake at 2 or 3pm.

2. IF YOU COULD EAT LUNCH WITH ONE FAMOUS PERSON, WHO WOULD IT BE?

3. GOLD OR SILVER?
Silver!

4. WHAT WAS THE LAST FILM YOU SAW AT THE CINEMA?

I did mine dark mahogany. No one will notice unless I stand under direct sunlight

52. HOW MANY DIFFERENT CITIES HAVE YOU LIVED IN?
How many cities does Singapore have?

53. WHAT IS UNDER YOUR BED?
A study table. A dismantled one, that is.

dark arts
You excel at Defense Against the Dark Arts. Which
is really good because who knows when you'll
run into that disgruntled troll or banshee going
through menopause.

Which Class at Hogwarts Would You Excel at?

This is slightly strange because hello, Heir of Slytherin here! Oh well...anyway thanks to Chris for this quiz.

The "Today" paper is organising a competition... write a 300-word email to them at harrypotter@newstoday.com.sg entitled "A Wizards' & Witches' Guide To Singapore" by 13th June and the authors of the 3 best entries get to win an autographed OoTP. My aunt suggested I write one... and it turned out like some very propaganda-y tourist brochure that happens to mention wizarding world stuff occasionally. ARGH! Whatever... Shall get my sister to write an alternate and crazy-fied version... am not cheating. Am so not cheating. Am so definitely not cheating. =P

I read this interview of AR from Youth Culture TV...the interviewer asked him if he was married, and he said "Just a little." ^_^|| Anyway, here's a little snippet that I just had to comment on:

PB: Does it disappoint you then that you haven't been made into an action figure?
AR: Ah-I have one at home, so I think I have.
PB: You have? The internet says you haven't.
AR: Yeah, oh no, I'm there. You can buy a Snape doll if you're that insane.

Yes, I do believe I am that insane. *LOL* Therefore will search all over Singapore for said doll. *maniacal grin*

Reading on thru those tragically bad plot summaries....it gets even better... Severus Snape is actually *drumroll* Lily Potter with dyed hair and contacts! Just kill me already. Oh and Chris, the "Harry has been sent back in time, placed into his younger body - before he was born." one that you mentioned? Someone commented that it could very well have been a Fetus!Harry/Fetus!Draco fic. Love destined to be, from ultrasound readings *LOL*

Many many thanks to Chris for that link to McTabby's Memorable Summary Executions! The summaries were really really bad, but the comments were priceless. The following slash song fic was posted by aldalindil in response to one really bad summary which reads: "Two duelists meet in the dead of night. On the battleground, they stand, awaiting the dance fever to overtake them." (Saturday Night Fever/HP crossover anyone?)

You can hex, and you want sex, something to spice up your life
Severus, you Stud Machine, you are the Duelling Queen!

Friday night and the lights are low
Homeworks done, so you find a foe,
You go to the Great Hall, get in the swing,
Go in to look for a King

Not anyone could be that guy!
Nevilles too dumb and Lockharts high,
But then you see him; everything is fine
He gives you that emerald glance
And when you get the chance

You are the Duelling Queen; hes young and sweet, but now hes eighteen!
Duelling Queen, your robes should be silver lam and green!
You can hex, you can stun him! Having the time of your life
Severus, smart and mean, you are the Duelling Queen!

Youre a teacher but he turns you on!
When his potions brewing, its hard to stay strong
You try to find another, but only one will do (Harrys the one for you!)
You want to get in his pants
And will when you get the chance!

You are the Duelling Queen, infatuated with his eyes of green!
Duelling Queen, hot for Potter cause hes so lean!
Youll beat him, youll take his wand, youll be his snarky wife!
Severus, you are so mean, you are the Duelling Queen!

And I checked my posting results... am in NTU's comm fac. Back to the studies after all this glorious slacking. I feel rather happy about going back to boring routine actually. Well, for now. [take the test] - [by krystaljungle.com]

Hey, don't hate me 'cause I'm smart... or because I'm feeling BHB today.

Aries
ARIES: Either you are one, or you should be.

What Western Zodiac Star Sign Should You Be? (with images!)
brought to you by Quizilla

You know, the amusing thing is... I got this quiz from Anya's LJ, and she got Aquarius when she's actually Aries, while I got Aries when I'm actually an Aquarius. I did get Aquarius on my second try though.

*looks at the current world's population* You must have a lot of frustration then.

What pisses you off?

Created by ptocheia

the "current world's"? hardly. I usually find myself quite pissed with the absolute idiots who made history what it is today as well. for example, the 17th losers who burned innocent people at stake for their own petty reasons, and the Church.

I am Lucius Malfoy!
You are... Lucius!
The most jaded of the Malfoys, you might have liked
to have been a poet, but for now, you'll just
content yourself with being a rich, gorgeous
bastard.

showyvamp
you are a... CLASSIC vampire. you are somewhat gothic, keep to yourself, and that's the way you like things. you are traditional and old fashioned. you might not do well with machines. simple is better. You love the fact that you are a vampire and wouldn't trade it for the world. so many advantages! you love to terrify the weaker race of humans silly. you also despise the "cute" vampires. you go with your instincts on everything, keep doing what your good at - the older ways.

what kind of vampire are you?(hellsing pics)
brought to you by Quizilla

Unfortunately that pic looks way too bishie for any self-respecting vampire. *sniffs huffily* except Chris just told me that that's a girl. Oh well... still too pretty

Mulier badasstica pseudofeminista, or Grrl Sue
You are Mulier badasstica pseudofeminista,
the Grrl Sue. Your aggressively bitchy
"feminist" stance only causes men /
boys / male elves to posture the more, and you
fall for it. And them. Surprise, surprise.

I've just watched the Buffy episode "Once More, With Feeling"...it was a real hoot *grins* The songs were all pretty good actually... I particularly loved the Spike one... and the Giles one when he felt that he was getting in Buffy's way. The Anya-Xander dance was so cute!

Channel 8 is showing Kindaichi Shounen no Jikembo again! ureshii~ It's season 3, which means Jun-chan is playing Kindaichi, not Tsuyoshi, but that's fine. Anyway more interested in the storyline.

Speaking of Tsuyoshi... they're having concerts at Nagoya now, but he's in the midst of filming a drama, so he's been having to rush from one place to the other, plus his company forced him to go on diet. Also, it's hayfever season now in Japan, and he had a fever and less than an hour of sleep every day... he was so exhausted that he couldn't sing at all during the concert a couple of nights ago. According to my jap friends in the audience, his face was completely white *heartpain* and he was still trying to do everything he was supposed to do so as not to disappoint the fans. The poor guy! *hugs Tsuyo-chan*

utopist. dreamer. cynic. poet. a contradiction. eccentric. cartesian. a starlight in the gloom.
